Inaugural Message of the KAKENHI Project, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas (Research in a Proposed Research Area), "Aquatic Functional Materials: Creation of New Materials Science for Environment-Friendly and Active Functions"

In this project, “Aquatic Functional Materials” is defined as materials that exhibit functions while they harmonize and interact with environment in the existence of water. Water is essential for our sustainable development and water is important issue in SDGs of the United Nations. The objective of this project is to create and establish materials science on “Aquatic Functional Materials” and to develop innovative materials through fusion of materials science and basic science of water in view of organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, physics, precise measurements, simulation, and engineering. We explore electronic/ionic, bio/environmental, and mechano-functions of “Aquatic Functional Materials”.
